I'm allergic to cats, and I have 2 long-haired cats. They are Not Allowed in my bedroom, so I usually keep that door closed. But now that it's getting hot again, I've been trying to train them to just not go in. I'm utilizing the squirt bottle method. It only works if I'm sitting here in the next room, monitoring the doorway.
FootFoot gets it. He's very compliant, and he understood right away, which I could have predicted.
Holly, on the other hand, is pretty defiant. I end up feeling like a cross between this:

She's very aware that she can't go in if I'm watching her. So she approaches, stops, and glances back over her shoulder with very wide eyes. "Can I get away with it? Not while he's watching".

This is my friend Cindy Mulvey. We had a lot of fun in high school, and were nearly best friends for a while. We drifted apart but I did see her from time to time, and was always impressed with the things she was doing for herself. She was killed in a plane crash, in Apr '97. I heard it on the radio very randomly, because I never turn on AM radio but out of the blue I did, and heard the news. It was surreal.
I googled her name and couldn't believe I found a picture of her! It's from her karate school or whatever you call it.
The caption reads:

We had so much fun together. I remember we went to Florence Mall one time and were wild hellions. We fucked with all the mannequins, pushing their wigs all the way down to the eyebrows, or putting the sunglasses over the mouth...etc.....it was a fun time. |

Oh, by the way....the director's commentary for The Mist was a complete waste of time. He rambles endlessly about technical details, repeats over and over again how great the CG company was, and points out every little instance where CG effects were used to tweak the scenes. He goes on and on to say something that I could have summed up in about 30 seconds.
I think I've already gone over what I didn't like about this movie. Mrs. Carmody was too soft and pretty. In the story she's an old crone, hateful and jumping around like a chicken, screeching and squawking. Her character was really toned down in the movie.
Other than her, I don't have major complaints about the actors. They were rather bland but acceptable. Amanda Dumfries should have been younger and...softer, I think. The little boy was okay...usually child actors annoy the hell out of me, but he was not bad.
Do I even need to go on? The ending totally sucked. If you read the story and pay attention, it actually ends on a hopeful note. In fact, the last word of the story is "Hope". I am all for unhappy endings, in fact I rather enjoy them. But here, it was just stupid.
*um, spoiler, mabye*.....
I think it sucked the life out of the story when we see that the mist was conquered so easily at the end. One of the scary parts of the story was not knowing if things would ever be normal again. The movie ruined that.
Anyway, that's the end of my rant. |
